This large gate was erected by the Vrindavana Municipality in 1979 in honor of His Divine Grace A.C.Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, the founder-acharya of ISKCON, in recognition of his contribution in spreading the glories of Vrindavana and the teachings of Lord Krishna all over the world. The Vrindavana Municipality also renamed the road leading to Vrindavana as Bhaktivedanta Swami Marg.
