Rajashekhara Dasa
From the book “Chaurasi-kosa Vraja Mandala Parikrama”:
This is the famous village that is associated with the gopi named Chandravali, who is the cousin of Radharani and also Her main rival in attracting Krishna’s love and affection. The Ujvala Nilamani says, “Of all the gopis beloved of Krishna, Radha and Chandravali excel, and each has millions of supporters in her yutha. Of the two, however, Radha is in all respects superior. She is the very embodiment of mahabhava and excels in all the virtues.” It is said that this is the place where Chandravali used to secretly meet with Krishna on the pretext of performing Surya Puja. Most authorities say that Chandravali lived in this village for some time, but that she was actually born at Rithore near Sanket. In the village of Sanchauli one can see the beautiful Surya-kunda and a temple dedicated to Chandravali known as the Chandravali Mandira, where one can see the Deities of Chandravali-Krishna. There is also a very popular temple at Sancholi and known as the Sancholi Mata Mandira which is very famous in this area.
