From the book “Chaurasi-kosa Vraja Mandala Parikrama”:
Whenever Lord Shiva arrived at Nandagrama to see Krishna, it is said that he would come to this kunda and imitate the sound of a cuckoo bird known as the kokila or koel, which makes a loud sequence of screeching calls, to inform Krishna of his arrival. There is also a small shrine here dedicated to Lord Shiva known as Kokeshwara Mahadeva.
