    Bhaktivedanta Narayana Gosvami

    From the book “Sri Vraja-maṇḍala-parikramā”:

Here, the naked babies Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma wrestled with each other. The gopīs encouraged Them to wrestle by offering to give the winner a laḍḍū. At this, the two boys, each desiring to defeat the other, began to wrestle. Today, Gopīśvara Mahādeva is here.

    Rajashekhara Dasa

From the book “Chaurasi-kosa Vraja Mandala Parikrama”:

This is where Krishna and Balarama enjoyed wrestling pastimes between Themselves and other children of the village. The word ‘malla’ means a ‘wrestler’. There is now a temple of Gopishwara Mahadeva at this spot.
