Description

Bhaktivedanta Narayana Gosvami
From the book “Sri Vraja-maṇḍala-parikramā”:
This is the place of residence of Devaspati Gopa and is situated about ten miles north of Dāūjī. Places of darśana are Rāmasāgara- kuṇḍa, an ancient and large kadamba tree, and the govardhana-śila worshipped by Devaspati Gopa. Nanda Rāya’s baiṭhaka is in the village of Hātaurā near Dāūjī.
It is said that Devanagara was the residential village of Devaspati Gopa, a close associate of Nanda Maharaja, who used to worship a govardhana-shila. Nanda Maharaja visited this village along with Krishna after his return from Syamanta-pancaka in Kurukshetra, where he had gone along with the Vrajavasis to celebrate the lunar eclipse. The places of interest here are the shrine where Devaspati Gopa’s govardhana-shila is being worshiped, Ramasagara-kunda, and an ancient kadamba tree.
