From the book “Chaurasi-kosa Vraja Mandala Parikrama”:
This is said to be the place where Krishna and Balarama had Their ears pierced. The word ‘karna’ means ‘ear’ as well as ‘earring’ and ‘wali’ means ‘the place’, or in other words the place where the two brothers had Their ears pierced. There is an ancient well here known Karnabedha Kupa. The word ‘karnabedha’ means the place (bedha) of the ‘ear-piercing’ and ‘kupa’ means ‘well’.
