Description

Bhaktivedanta Narayana Gosvami
From the book “Sri Vraja-maṇḍala-parikramā”:
Unāī lies one-and-a-half miles south of Bājanā. This is where Brahmā became bewildered upon seeing Kṛṣṇa sitting and eating with his sakhās. In the end, Kṛṣṇa kindly removed Brahmā’s bewilderment and revealed Himself to him. At that time, Brahmā saw the whole universe as kṛṣṇamaya, or “filled with Kṛṣṇa”. Therefore, this place is called Janāī-gaon, which is derived from the verb jānnā meaning “to know” or “to understand”.
Rajashekhara Dasa
From the book “Chaurasi-kosa Vraja Mandala Parikrama”:
The Bhakti-ratnakara says, “In Unai, Krishna and His boyfriends ate all sorts of food”. Some commentators have said that from this place Lord Brahma observed the cowherd boys taking their lunch. However, the place where the cowherd boys ate their lunch has been identified as Vatsavana near the village of Sei which is five miles north-east from Unai. Therefore the verse quoted above from the Bhakti-ratnakara about Krishna and the cowherd boys ‘eating all sorts of food’ at Unai village appears to describe a different pastime altogether.
