Rajashekhara Dasa
From the book “Chaurasi-kosa Vraja Mandala Parikrama”:
The Bhakti-ratnakara says, “Krishna killed Aghasura in a clever [sayana] way, therefore this village was given the name Soyano or sometimes Sehona.” The word ‘siyano’ means ‘very clever’ and after hearing about the killing of Aghashura, all the Vrajavasis began to praise Krishna saying, He had very cleverly killed the great serpent by entering its throat and after expanding His body, the demon was unable to breath and thus choked to death. There is an ancient temple here on a hill in the centre of the village dedicated to the four Kumaras: Sanaka, Sananda, Sanat and Sanatana. Unfortunately, the Deities of the Chatur-Kumara, along with Deities of Radha-Krishna, were stolen long ago because they were made of a precious metal called ashta-dhatu, which contains gold and silver. At the present time the small Deities of Banke-Bihari are being worshiped in this temple. To the east of the village there is a large lake known as Kshira Sagar where the temple of Seshashayi-Vishnu, known locally as Podanatha Mandira, once stood. This Deity was also stolen and over time the temple fell into ruins and disappeared. To the west of the village one can see Krishna-kunda which also called by the locals as Vishnu-Kunda, or sometimes as Dubala-kunda.
