Description

Rajashekhara Dasa
From the book “Chaurasi-kosa Vraja Mandala Parikrama”:
During Krishna’s killing of the Aghasura demon at nearby Sapauli, Lord Brahma stayed behind and concealed himself in a cloud above this village. Brahma wanted to observe Krishna’s activities more closely to further ascertain whether or not He was the Supreme Personality of Godhead, as the demigods were claiming. Thus Brahma hatched a plan to steal all the cowherd boys along with their calves as a test (pariksha) to see what the little cowherd by named Krishna would do. The Bhakti-ratnakara says, “In Parikhama, Brahma wanted to test the power of Krishna.” The word ‘pariksha’ means to ‘question’, to ‘ascertain’ or to ‘test’, thus the village achieved the name ‘Parikham’ which is derived from the word ‘pariksha’.
