    Bhaktivedanta Narayana Gosvami

    From the book “Sri Vraja-maṇḍala-parikramā”:

At the time of cow herding, Śrī Kṛṣṇa played here with the sakhās and assumed the form of Varāha. This village lies one mile south-west of Hājarā-gaon, and its present name is Barārā. Bhakti-ratnākara states:

    eī barāhara grāme varāharūpe te
    khelāīlā kṛṣṇapriyā sakhāra sahite
“Here in Barāhara, Kṛṣṇa assumed the form of Varāha and played with His dear sakhās.”

    Rajashekhara Dasa

From the book “Chaurasi-kosa Vraja Mandala Parikrama”:

The Bhakti-ratnakara says, “In Varahara village, Krishna played with His friends by assuming the form of Varaha.” This rather remote village lies on the old bank of the Yamuna River where Krishna played with the cowherd boys and exhibited His transcendental form as Lord Varaha, the boar incarnation of Vishnu. The Yamuna River has moved away from this place over the period of the last fifty years and is now located more than a mile to the east.
