    Bhaktivedanta Narayana Gosvami

    From the book “Sri Vraja-maṇḍala-parikramā”:

It was here that Brahmā stole away the cowherd boys. This place is therefore called Bālahārā. Bāla means “boy”, and harnā means “to steal”.

    Rajashekhara Dasa

From the book “Chaurasi-kosa Vraja Mandala Parikrama”:

The Bhakti-ratnakara says, “In Balahara, Brahma felt delighted as he stole all the cowherd boys.” The name of this village is Balahara which comes from the word ‘bala’ meaning ‘boys’ and ‘hara’ meaning ‘stolen’. Lord Brahma was feeling great delight while believing that he had played a clever trick on Krishna by taking away all His cowherd boyfriends along with their calves.
