Description

Rajashekhara Dasa
From the book “Chaurasi-kosa Vraja Mandala Parikrama”:
One day the cowherd boys were passing by this place when they suddenly noticed a peacock’s feather lying on the ground. Seeing that the peacock’s feather was showing signs of wear and tear, they concluded that this was proof that their beloved friend Krishna must have danced at this place along with the peacocks. In the local language, the word ‘dana’ means a ‘peacock-feather’ but it can also mean a ‘gift’ or a ‘donation’, which implies that the peacocks leave behind their beautiful feathers as a ‘dana’ or gift, and this is how the village got its name.
