Rajashekhara Dasa
From the book “Chaurasi-kosa Vraja Mandala Parikrama”:
The name Khera is derived from the Sanskrit word khora which means ‘cows hoofprint’ and indicates that it was the place where the cows and calves were herded together in the late afternoon by Krishna and the cowherd boys before they returned to the goshala. The village is also known as Khera Bramanan because it is a village where primarily brahmanas are residing. It is said that Suryadeva the sun-god descended to earth and worshiped Lord Krishna at this place and thus the ancient name of the village was Suryapatnavana, which means ‘the forest where Surya descended’. The temple of Surya is located about two miles (3km) to the west of the village where one can also see a small kunda known as Surya-tala. One can also see within Khera village: Gopala-kunda and Gwala-kunda, the Gopala Mandira and Bihariji Mandira.
