Description

Bhaktivedanta Narayana Gosvami
From the book “Sri Vraja-maṇḍala-parikramā”:
The present name of this village is Śakravā, and is situated two miles west of Govardhana and one-and-a-half miles north-west of Sakhītharā. At this place, Rādhikā’s own gopīs made Kṛṣṇa repeatedly swear that He knew no one other than Śrī Rādhikā. Hence, this place is called Sauṅkarāī, from śapatha lenā, meaning “to take an oath”. This is also where Indra donated a Surabhī cow to Kṛṣṇa. Śakra-kuṇḍa and Gvāla-kuṇḍa lie here.
Rajashekhara Dasa
From the book “Chaurasi-kosa Vraja Mandala Parikrama”:
This village is located in the vicinity of Sakhisthali village and according to the Bhakti-ratnakara, falls within the area described as the personal playground of the gopi Chandravali, who is Radharani’s main rival amongst the gopis for obtaining Krishna’s love and affection. One day when the girlfriends of Radharani saw Krishna herding His cows near this village, they made Him take an oath that He would never give His love to anyone other than Radharani. The Bhakti-ratnakara says, “This is Sonkrai-grama, a most fascinating village where the sakhis made Krishna take a vow. Thus after taking the vow, Krishna repeatedly said again and again ‘Other than Radhika, I do not know anyone else.'”
