    Bhaktivedanta Narayana Gosvami

    From the book “Sri Vraja-maṇḍala-parikramā”:

This place is currently called Paramadīrā, but its true name is Pramodavana. Here the Divine Couple Śrī Rādhā-Kṛṣṇa, became very delighted upon meeting each other. Pramoda means “delight” or “happiness”. In the north of the village is Kṛṣṇa-kuṇḍa, and in the east is Caraṇa-kuṇḍa.

From the book “Chaurasi-kosa Vraja Mandala Parikrama”:

The Bhakti-ratnakara says, “This is Pramodana-grama where Krishna sportingly gave pleasure [pramoda] to the ladies of Vraja. For this reason the village was known as Pramodana, although people now call it Paramadana.” This place is known as Pramodana because it was here that Krishna gave great pleasure to the gopis. The name Pramodana is derived from the Sanskrit word ‘pramoda’ which means ‘pleasure’ or ‘delight’. One day the gopis were searching the forest for Krishna but they were not able to find Him anywhere. Eventually they came to this place and suddenly feeling such intense separation from Krishna, they began to weep uncontrollably. Out of utter despair at not seeing Krishna, some of the gopis began embracing the dark-blue colored tamala trees because those trees reminded them of Krishna’s own bodily complexion. Some of the gopis simply fainted on the ground and remained lying there motionless as if dead. All of a sudden Krishna arrived at that place and the gopis were immediately revived by His transcendental presence. The gopis became filled with delight and experienced the greatest pleasure at seeing their beloved Krishna once again. On another occasion, the gopis came to this place to get water from the kunda. On seeing the darkish color of the water, they immediately thought of their beloved Shyamasundara and thus swooned and fell to the ground. Krishna very quickly came there and revived the gopis by lovingly embracing each gopi and thus fulfilled their innermost desires. In the village one can see two ancient kundas known as Krishna-kunda and Charana-kunda. The word ‘charana’ means Krishna’s lotus feet.
