From the book “Sri Vraja-maṇḍala-parikramā”:
On the order of Indra, his elephant carrier Airāvata used his trunk to bathe Śrī Kṛṣṇa with the water of the heavenly Gaṅgā. Near the kuṇḍa on top of the hill are the impressions of Airāvata’s feet.

From the book “Chaurasi-kosa Vraja Mandala Parikrama”:
This kunda was created by Lord Indra’s elephant carrier Airavata, who stored water in this kunda that was to be used for the abhisheka bathing ceremony of Lord Krishna being performed by the heavenly king Indra at Govinda-kunda. The water that was stored in this kund was the sacred water from the celestial River Ganges flowing in the heavenly planets known by the name Mandakini.
