Rajashekhara Dasa
From the book “Chaurasi-kosa Vraja Mandala Parikrama”:
Located on the Mathura parikrama path between Mahavidya Devi Mandira and Gokarneshwara Mahadeva is the famous Saraswati-kunda, which is within the forest of Ambikavana. Local panditas say there used to be a natural underground spring within the sacred kund that fed the river Saraswati. However the natural spring has dried up since many years. The Saraswati River in Ambika-kanana is considered to be the original Saraswati and is therefore considered to be non-different from the Saraswati River flowing in the Himalayas. When Nanda Maharaja and the cowherd men visited Ambika-kanana they took their bath in the Saraswati River. Another small river nearby is known as the Krishna-ganga and they both meet at the place still known as the Saraswati Sangama. Many pilgrims used to take a sacred bath in these two sacred rivers in olden days. There is a very rare shrine on the banks of Saraswati-kunda dedicated to Bhagawati Saraswati Devi, the goddess of learning, who in her divine aspect as Bhagawati Devi, considered being a consort of Lord Vishnu. Lord Chaitanya also visited Saraswati Kunda and Saraswati Sangam during His parikrama of Mathura.
