Rajashekhara Dasa
From the book “Chaurasi-kosa Vraja Mandala Parikrama”:
After Krishna had slain the serpent Aghasura, the demigods who saw the event from the sky, began a tumultuous kirtana accompanied by drums, cymbals, and various other musical instruments while showering flowers on the earth. The Bhakti-ratnakara says, “In Jayeta-grama the demigods glorified Krishna, ‘Jaya! Jaya! All glories to the Supreme Personality of Godhead!’ and then showered Him with flowers.” The demigods were chanting in unison, “Jayate! Jayate! Jayate!” This loud chanting by the demigods means, “Victory! Victory! Victory to Krishna!” and it was so loud it could be heard by the people in this village and therefore the village achieved the name of Jayeta, which has now become Jait. There is a large lake in the village where there is a statue of the serpent Aghasura.
