Rajashekhara Dasa
From the book “Chaurasi-kosa Vraja Mandala Parikrama”:
The word ‘naugawan’ or ‘naujawan’ means a ‘fresh youth’ (naya-jivani). Local legends say that one day Krishna, who had just entered His kaishora-lila as a newly blossoming youth, was out herding the cows when the gopis began to feel intense separation from Him and desired to see His beautiful form. Thus they split into two groups and began searching for their beloved Krishna here and there and eventually came to this place. One group of gopis asked the other if they had found their beloved Krishna and the group of gopis replied “no, we could not find Krishna even after searching everywhere”. The gopis then became distraught and began to cry thinking that Krishna must be lost somewhere in the vast forest.
