From the book “Chaurasi-kosa Vraja Mandala Parikrama”:
This village marks the northern border of Vraja on the eastern bank of the Yamuna River and those pilgrims performing the Vraja Mandala Borderline-Parikrama visit this place. The samadhi of the celebrated sage Markandeya Rsi can be found here on a small hill at the place where he underwent austerities and the name Marava is derived from the name of Markandeya.
