    Rajashekhara Dasa

From the book “Chaurasi-kosa Vraja Mandala Parikrama”:

A vanachari is someone who lives in the forest. Once, some of the gopis were talking amongst themselves saying that Krishna was a vanachari, because He was always found roaming in the forests of Vraja. He always wears a garland of forest flowers and often sits under the trees in the forest playing on His bamboo flute; we also see Him playing with His friends on the banks of the Yamuna. Because the gopis were talking about Krishna being a vanachari at this place, the village became known as Vanachariya and the word ‘nagla’ means a hamlet.
