From the book “Chaurasi-kosa Vraja Mandala Parikrama”:

One day Krishna was herding His cows at this place along with the cowherd boys when He suddenly began remembering all the wonderful pastimes He had enjoyed with His beloved Radharani. Because of this, Krishna gradually became so overwhelmed with loving emotions as He thought of Radharani, that He was forced to sit down and simply remained there almost motionless. The word ‘ghata’ has a number of meanings one of which is to ‘think deeply’, or to be ‘overwhelmed by thoughts’. Thus the village received the name of Ghata because at this place Krishna was completely overwhelmed by thoughts of His beloved Radharani.
