From the book “Chaurasi-kosa Vraja Mandala Parikrama”:

The word ‘muni’ refers to a ‘self-realized soul’ and ‘sirsha’ means the ‘foremost’ or ‘topmost’. In other words, the foremost amongst the self-realized munis’ assembled here on the banks of the Munisirsha-sthana-kunda. These munis had achieved perfection by performing austerities while remembering the pastimes of Lord Shri Krishna. The Bhakti-ratnakara says, “See here the most pleasant Munisirsha-sthana-kunda where the munis achieved Krishna by performing austerities. At these sites Krishna and Balarama performed various pastimes with Their friends as They tended their cows.”
