    Bhaktivedanta Narayana Gosvami

    From the book “Sri Vraja-maṇḍala-parikramā”:

This ghāṭa is also called Āditya-ghāṭa, and is situated north of Gopāla-ghāṭa. The hillock (ṭīlā) above this ghāṭa is called Āditya- ṭīlā. On this hillock stands the temple of Śrī Madana-mohanajī, the life and soul of Śrī Sanātana Gosvāmī. This has also been described earlier. Praskandana-tīrtha is also here.

    Rajashekhara Dasa

From the book “Chaurasi-kosa Vraja Mandala Parikrama”:

In the Adi-varaha Purana it is said, “Hey Vasundhare! Whoever takes a bath at Surya-tirtha gets the darshana of Aditya and goes to Suryaloka having had all his desires fulfilled.” Situated along the old bank of the Yamuna River is Suraj Ghata; Suraj is a name of the sun-god Surya-Narayana. This famous ghata named after the sun-god is also known as Surya Ghata or Surya-tirtha, and it is said that in ancient times the sun-god Surya Deva came to this place by the Yamuna and underwent severe austerity in order to have darshana of Lord Krishna.

During the pastime of subduing the serpent Kaliya, after Krishna had emerged from the waters of the Yamuna River, He was shivering with cold. Shrimati Radharani came here to Surya Ghata along with the gopis and prayed to Surya-Narayana to provide warmth to Krishna so that He could quickly recover from the cold. At that moment all twelve expansions of the sungod known as the Adityas, appeared simultaneously in the sky to warm Krishna’s body. Although the old ghata is no longer visible, the nearby ruins of the ancient temple of the sun-god can still be seen. It is also said that Radharani often visited this ghata by the banks of the Yamuna in order to perform Surya-puja and offer flowers to the sun-god. The Vraja-ritti-cintamani (77) says, “To the south-west, located in a jasmine garden is Suryaspada, where Sri Radhika worships the sun-god with a newly blossomed red rose.”
