Bhaktivedanta Narayana Gosvami
From the book “Sri Vraja-maṇḍala-parikramā”:
Indraulī is Indulekhā Sakhī’s village. Indra, the king of the demigods, worshipped Śrī Kṛṣṇa here to free himself from his offence. For these reasons the village is named Indraulī or Indrolī. Pilgrims can have darśana of Indra-kuṇḍa, Indra-kūpa and Indulekhā’s kuñja here.
Rajashekhara Dasa
From the book “Chaurasi-kosa Vraja Mandala Parikrama”:
It is said that after Indra had been defeated by Krishna he came here and engaged in meditation to properly understand Lord Krishna’s position as the Supreme Personality of Godhead. In the Bhakti-ratnakara it says, “This town is called Indroli. At this place Indra engaged in meditation on Lord Krishna.” According to some, Indroli is the village of the gopi Indulekha who is one of the ashta-sakhis or intimate girlfriends of Radharani. There is a kunja located here bearing her name and known as Indulekha Kunja. Indulekha is an expert in chanting mantras and also charming snakes. She knows many arts including palmistry, gemology, weaving, and stringing necklaces. She also carries messages on behalf of the ‘divine couple’. However, local legends say Indulekha was born in the village of Anjanauka near Varsana.
