    Bhaktivedanta Narayana Gosvami

    From the book “Sri Vraja-maṇḍala-parikramā”:

While moving to Nandagaon, Śrī Nanda Mahārāja camped (ḍerā ḍālā) here upon arriving from Chaṭṭīkarā. This village is therefore known as Ḍerāvalī.

    Rajashekhara Dasa

From the book “Chaurasi-kosa Vraja Mandala Parikrama”:

The Bhakti-ratnakara says, “Here is Deravali-grama. Coming from Shakatigara, Nanda stayed here on his way to Nandishwara.” When Nanda Maharaja left Shakatikhara (Chhatikara) on his journey to find a new place to live, they came through this place on their way to Dig and because it was late in the day and getting dark, they decided to set up their ‘dera’, or camp here. Because they made their ‘dera’ at this place ‘vali’, it became known as Deravali.
