    Bhaktivedanta Narayana Gosvami

    From the book “Sri Vraja-maṇḍala-parikramā”:

Bāsosi is situated two miles north of Śeṣaśāī. Here, the bees became intoxicated upon smelling the beautiful fragrance of Śrī Kṛṣṇa’s limbs and hummed all around Him. The word bāsa means “fragrance” and thus the name of this place became Bāsosi. Here Rādhā, Kṛṣṇa and the sakhīs became intoxicated in playful pastimes. The air was filled with the fragrance of Their limbs, with the red and pink powder of the Holī festival, and with the fragrance of sandalwood.

    Rajashekhara Dasa

From the book “Chaurasi-kosa Vraja Mandala Parikrama”:

The name of this village is derived from the word ‘vasa’ which means ‘fragrance’. In the Bhakti-ratnakara it is said, “Here is Vasosi Grama, which is perfumed by the scent from Krishna’s body. What to speak of maddening the bumblebees, the composure of the entire world is destroyed by that scent. It was here that Radha and Krishna played hol/ with Their dear friends.”
