    Bhaktivedanta Narayana Gosvami

    From the book “Sri Vraja-maṇḍala-parikramā”:

Kāmaī is the birthplace of Viśākhā, who is prominent among the eight principal sakhīs. The village of Kāmaī lies five miles from Varsānā and four-and-a-half miles south-west of Umrāo. South of Kāmaī are the villages of Sī and Parsoṅ.

    Rajashekhara Dasa

From the book “Chaurasi-kosa Vraja Mandala Parikrama”:

According to the Bhakti-ratnakara, the village of Kamai is the birthplace of Vishakha-sakhi, one of the eight most intimate girlfriends of Shrimati Radharani. The Bhakti-ratnakara says, “In Kamai, Vishakha was born.” The eight most prominent girlfriends of Radharani are collectively known as the ashta-sakhis. Vishakha is so close to Radha and Krishna that along with her dear friend Lalita, her Deity is often installed right next to Radha and Krishna in many of the temples in the Vraja region. According to the Gaura-ganoddesha-dipika, Vishakha appeared in Chaitanya-lila as Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s very intimate companion Ramananda Raya.
