    Bhaktivedanta Narayana Gosvami

    From the book “Sri Vraja-maṇḍala-parikramā”:

Bhāṇḍokhora, situated four miles north-west of Riṭhaura and four miles west of Nandagaon, is where Mahārāja Nanda had his cowshed that was situated in the west. Earthen vessels (bhāṇḍa) were filled with milk or washed here, which is why this place is known as Bhāṇḍokhora.

    Rajashekhara Dasa

From the book “Chaurasi-kosa Vraja Mandala Parikrama”:

This is where one of Nanda Maharaja’s goshalas was situated. He had so many cows they could not be kept at one place alone and therefore he maintained a number of goshalas at various locations in the area. Some say that from the earthen milk pot called a ‘bhanda’ this village got its name. While others have said the village derives its name from ‘bandar’ which means a ‘storage place’ for produce, because Nanda Maharaja kept one of his storehouses at this place. The village has two famous kundas known as Bhramara-kunda and Ksira-kunda, but unfortunately the local Vrajavasis are not even aware about the existence of these kundas. However, there are two kundas still partly visible in the west of the village located next to the Hanuman Mandira, one is in a neglected condition and the other is dry most of the year except during monsoon. The word ‘bhramara’ means a ‘bumble-bee’ and ‘ksira’ means ‘milk’.
