Description

Bhaktivedanta Narayana Gosvami
From the book “Sri Vraja-maṇḍala-parikramā”:
Riṭhaura is situated one-and-a-half miles west of Saṅketvana, and is the village of Vṛṣabhānu Mahārāja’s elder brother, Śrī Candrabhānu Gopa. Candrāvalī, the darling daughter of this same Candrabhānu, was born here. In the south-east of the village, surrounded by dense rows of trees, is Candrāvalī-kuṇḍa, where Candrāvalī used to perform her childhood pastimes with her sakhīs, bathe and play in the water. Another sitting-place of Vallabhācārya is here.
Rajashekhara Dasa
From the book “Chaurasi-kosa Vraja Mandala Parikrama”:
This is the village of Chandrabhanu Gopa who was the elder brother of Vrishabhanu Maharaja, Radharani’s father. This village is said to be the birthplace of the gopi Chandravali, who was the daughter of Chandrabhanu Gopa and the cousin-sister of Radharani. There is a kunda here known as Chandravali-kunda and this is where Chandravali enjoyed many of her childhood pastimes along with her many girlfriends. Amongst all the gopis of Vraja, two of them are exquisitely beautiful and full of transcendental qualities, they are Radharani and Chandravali. Although both are cousins and expert in pleasing Krishna, they are also rivals in trying to attract Krishna’s love and affection. Radharani is considered the better of the two because of Her extremely soft and sweet nature as well as Her thoroughly charming disposition. Besides this, She also possesses unparalleled devotion and completely selfless love for Krishna.
