    Bhaktivedanta Narayana Gosvami

    From the book “Sri Vraja-maṇḍala-parikramā”:

One-and-a-half miles south-west of Ḍabharāro is Rasolī, where Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa performed the famous rāsa along with the gopīs. This is the birthplace of Tungavidyā Sakhī. Tungavidyā’s father is Puṣkara Gopa, her mother is Medhā Gopī, and her husband is Vāliśa. She is one of the main eight sakhīs, and is fully expert in dancing, singing, playing instrumental music, astrology, writing poetry, cooking and various other arts. Tungavidyā Sakhī is also skilled in understanding the language of birds and animals, and in arranging for Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa’s meeting.

    Rajashekhara Dasa

From the book “Chaurasi-kosa Vraja Mandala Parikrama”:

This is the birthplace of Tungavidya Devi, one of the eight most intimate girlfriends of Radharani known as the ashta-sakhis. She is also a yutheshvari, or leader of her own group of gopis and trains them in serving Radha and Krishna. She is an expert vina player and singer and also teaches other gopis the art of music, dance, and drama. Tungavidya, as her name implies, is learned in eighteen branches of Vedic knowledge. This village is also a site of the celebrated rasa-lila dance and thus this village became known as Rasoli.
