    Bhaktivedanta Narayana Gosvami

    From the book “Sri Vraja-maṇḍala-parikramā”:

Lalitā and other sakhīs, being attracted and enamoured by Vrajendra-nandana Śrī Kṛṣṇa’s qualities as a hero, such as dhīra- lalita, enjoyed rāsa and various other pastimes with Him around and on top of this hill.

    Rajashekhara Dasa

From the book “Chaurasi-kosa Vraja Mandala Parikrama”:

This hill is known as Sakhigiri Parvata because the sakhis or friends of Radha including: Lalita, Vishakha, Campaklata, and Chitra, used to play here as children. Later when they grew up, the sakhis would enjoy many varieties of pastimes with Krishna on this same hill. This famous hill is also known as Alta Pahadi because the sakhis applied red ‘lac’ or ‘alta’ to the soles of Radha’s lotus feet, as well as on their own feet. The words ‘pahadi’, ‘pahari’, ‘parvata’ and ‘giri’ all mean a ‘mountain’, or a hill; the name ‘Sakhigiri’ therefore means the ‘sakhis’ mountain’.
